Born and raised in Chennai, India, Nooyi’s journey from a middle-class upbringing to leading one of the world’s largest multinational corporations is widely regarded as an inspiring story of determination, resilience, and excellence. She completed her undergraduate studies at Madras Christian College and later earned an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta. Seeking global exposure, she moved to the United States to pursue a Master’s degree in Public and Private Management from Yale University.
Nooyi joined PepsiCo in 1994 and steadily rose through the ranks, becoming CEO in 2006 and Chairman in 2007. During her leadership, she played a crucial role in reshaping the company’s long-term strategy, driving both financial growth and sustainable business practices. Her tenure marked a significant shift in PepsiCo’s portfolio toward healthier products, while maintaining strong performance across its global markets.
A defining aspect of Nooyi’s leadership was her introduction of the philosophy of “Performance with Purpose”, a strategic framework that emphasized sustainable growth, environmental responsibility, and a commitment to offering healthier product choices. This approach not only strengthened the company’s market position but also set new standards for corporate responsibility in the global business landscape.
